Overcoming the Challenges of Working From Home as a Solopreneur

There are countless advantages to being a solopreneur. Not only do you get to work from home and generate all your own income, but you also get to create something you’ve poured your heart and soul into and that truly represents who you are as a person.

BUT it would be disingenuous to pretend that there are no downsides to the solopreneur lifestyle. In fact there are a whole lot of downsides. And overcoming these can be an uphill struggle.

Still, overcome them you must if you want to thrive in this new way of living and working.

Tips to help you overcome the most common challenges of working from home solopreneur lifestyle.

Going Stir Crazy: A lot of people find that working from one room all day is enough to drive them mad. This is one challenge that really neednÕt be an issue. One of the brilliant aspects of working from home is that when itÕs a nice day you can sit in the garden. If you donÕt mind the distraction you can even go and work in a coffee shop or pub for variation. The world is your office, so get yourself out there!

Being Constantly “ON”: Make sure that you have separate numbers for your “personal” time and for your “work” time. The reason for this is that it will mean you can turn your “personal” phone off while you’re at work; you wouldn’t take calls from your Gran while you were working in an office would you? Well you should treat this no differently.

Loss of Structure: As working from home can leave you without structure or regular social interaction, it’s useful to give yourself structure from other sources. For instance, by going to a Karate class, or playing on a football team. That way you still get the camaraderie you might be missing from not working in an office and have some structure to your weeks.

Feeling Disconnected: Another way to feel connected to the real world is to call friends and sort errands in your lunch break. It’s also always good as a way to keep on top of errands and communications. If you get a hands free kit you can do this while going for a work or eating your lunch.

Staying Motivated: At the end of the day I love generating my own money. So I don’t mind it if my work life creeps into my home life – just a little bit. To me, it gives me direction and is almost like a hobby in itself. If you’re finding it stressful and can’t keep to any of your deadlines for dread of turning the computer on then maybe it’s not the business model or niche for you.
